Abstract:
An analytical method for estimating the "average' vertical displacement (Z̄) of an ensemble of particles and the vertical atmospheric dispersion coefficient (σZ) for emissions from groundlevel instantaneous and continuous point sources is developed. The solutions of the atmospheric diffusion equation for non-stationary and stationary conditions with power-law form of the vertical profiles for the wind speed and for the vertical turbulent diffusivity are used. The expressions obtained for both vertical dispersion parameters are functions of the downwind distance, the atmospheric stability and the surface roughness. The values of σZ calculated using the analytical method are in good agreement with the estimated from experimental data at rural and urban areas. -Authors
