Abstract:

A removal method for arsenic in polluted water using zeolites was evaluated. Natural and commercial zeolites were used; the second one was also treated with iron (T-CZ). Adsorption isotherms were evaluated. Pure natural zeolites had more adsorption capacity than commercial ones, and T-CZ presented a significantly higher adsorption. Also, experiments at pH 5.5 showed better adsorption capacities compared with those at lower pH values. T-CZ represents a novel material that may be used as filter for arsenic-contaminated waters. © 2014 Taylor & Francis Group.
