Abstract:

The measurement of the energy loss of helium ions in zinc was described. The Rutherford scattering and transmission technique was used to determine the electron loss of helium ions in the energy range from 37.5 to 1750 keV/amu. The evaluation of the contributions of the valence electrons and inner-shell to the total energy loss was also discussed. The results show that the contribution of the inner-shell electrons is increased from ∼50% at 37.5 keV/amu to ∼85% at 1.7 MeV/amu.
