Abstract:
The collective excitations of a three-component Fermi-Bose mixture of potassium atoms magnetically trapped and subjected to repulsive s-wave interactions was analyzed using the mean-field plus random-phase approximation (RPA) formalism. The single-particle excitation and the density oscillation spectra created by external multipolar fields was studied for varying fermion concentrations. When the bosonic cloud was large, the low-lying modes increased with a smaller slope than the modes with energies higher than the chemical potential. The fragmented density excitation spectra of the fermion sample was evaluated which illustrated the role of mutual interaction in the observed deviations of the bosonic spectra with respect to Stringari's rule.
