Abstract:

In this paper, inverse-response systems are considered and a example of level control in boiler drums is given, presenting their response and transfer function. A standard system is taken for analysis, and the response under Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control with classical settings is presented for comparison. The same system is controlled with a complex compensator control strategy, evaluating the response and the behaviour of the manipulated variable. Then a fuzzy control system is used and a similar analysis is performed. In several aspects, certain advantages of the fuzzy logic approach are found, besides the availability and simplicity of programming. Thus, this strategy represents a reasonable alternative for this critical control problem, for which its application can be recommended.
