Abstract:

The approach to equilibrium of a quantal harmonic mode that exhibits time-dependent inertial or stiffness parameters, irreversibly coupled to a fermionic heat bath, is examined. It is assumed that the relaxation dynamics is described by a master equation derived in prior work, here endowed with a parametric time dependence in the microscopically derived transition rates. Exact and adiabatic solutions of the master equation are compared in a range of temperatures and for a selection of mass variation laws established in a preceding paper. © 1985.
