Abstract:
Passiflora edulis is a member of the family Passifloraceae and it is popularly known in Brazil as maracujá. Two types of P. edulis are grown commercially, the purple form (P. edulis Sims or also P. edulis forma Sims) and a yellow form (P. edulis forma flavicarpa Degener). These species have been used in popular medicine mainly as sedative and tranquilizer. In this work P. edulis f. flavicarpa was studied. The phytochemical evaluation was carried out with the root extracts of P. edulis forma flavicarpa. From the dichloromethane fraction of the root extract one compound (T) was isolated and identified as the triterpenoid 3β, 16β - diacetoxyurs-12-ene. This compound is new for species of genus Passiflora. The structure was established on the basis of 1H- and 13C-NMR, DEPT, HETCOR, COSY and HMBC.
