Abstract:

A diverse and abundant palynoflora is described from the Cullen Formation (early or middle Miocene) exposed in the northeast coastof Isla Grande of Tierra del Fuego, southernmost Patagonia. Eleven conifer pollen taxa including one new species are recorded, as well as indeterminate gymnosperm pollen. The microflora includes Araucariacites australis, Dacrycarpites australiensis, Lygistepollenites florinii, Phyllocladidites mawsonii, Phyllocladidites elongatus sp. nov., Podocarpidites microreticuloidatus, Podocarpidites rugulosus, Podocarpidites torquatus, Podocarpidites sp. and Trichotomosulcites subgranulatus. Podocarpidites torquatus is recorded for the first time from South America. © 2005 Association of Australasian Palaeontologists.
