Abstract:

1. 1. The sterol composition of the marine salp Ihlea racovitzai from the Antarctic Ocean was studies by GC-MS and 1H-NMR. 2. 2. This organism presents a complex mixture of Δ5-sterols and stanols and the presence of six related pairs of them with identical side chains was characteristic of tunicates. 3. 3. Brassicasterol was the most abundant component. Other Δ5-derivatives with unsaturated side chains are also important components of the mixture. © 1989.
