Abstract:

The use of a 46.9 nm tabletop laser in characterizing diffraction gratings designed for grazing incidence operation in the soft x-ray spectral region was demonstrated. The elctromagnetic code predictedthe gravity performance accurately when the number of propagating modes was small. The efficiencies for different diffraction orders as a functionincidence were measured and compared with the results obtained using rigorous electromagnetic model simulations. The results illustrated the possibilites of compact tabletop soft x-ray lasers as a tool for the characterization of short wavelength optics at the manufacturer's site. © 2001 SPIE · 0277-786X/01/$15.00.
