Abstract:

The confinement of the Cu(111) Shockley surface state by different kinds of deposited nanostructures has been studied as a function of environment by doing self-consistent electronic structure calculations. The population and depopulation of Shockley state is shown to depend both on the environment and on the type of the Schkley state is shown.
