Abstract:
The overall structure including intermolecular interactions and crystal orientation of 4,4′-Bis(N,N-diethylamino)2,2′-bi-pyridine was investigated. Each molecule was found to have a planar bipyridine nucleus and two terminal diethylamine groups oriented at almost right angles to the core. The terminal diethylamine groups was deviated from the mean plane of the molecular core due to the slight rotation of the CNC2 groups around the C-N bonds. The results show that the terminal methyl arms act a effective spacers between molecules.
