Abstract:

This paper reviews the experimental data supporting the hypothesis that microtubulea are involved in melatonin action. Melatonin added in vitro in mM concentrations or greater impairs some but not all microtubule-dependent processes tested. In addition melatonin treatment or induction of endogenous melatonin release affect tubulin levels in the hypothalamus. Whether all these phenomena are mediated through a common mechanism remains unsettled. © 1981.
