Data obtained by uniaxial stress EPR experiments on Mn2+ in calcite show that the axial field parameter D varies linearly with stress. This and existing hydrostatic stress data allow us to calculate the effect of the thermal expansion of the crystal on this parameter. The comparison of this contribution with the observed temperature dependence of D indicates that the effects of the lattice vibrations are very important. © 1974.
