Abstract:
This work studies changes in porphyrins during the development of hyperhydricity. Micropropagated shoots of Lupinus polyphyllus showed thick broad leaves that were translucent, wrinkled and/or curled and brittle, symptoms of hyperhydricity. The ratio between dry and fresh weight (%) dropped from 14.9 to 6.7. Chlorophyll content was reduced from 2512 to 499 μg g-1 frwt. The a/b chlorophyll ratio (5/1) did not change until the third week, it was then modified to 3/1. Porphyrin content was reduced from 20 to 5 μg mg-1 protein. Porphyrins with more carboxyl groups increased, while uroporphyrinogen III level was reduced.
