The system of polysaccharides ('corallinans") from the calcareous red seaweed Corallina officinalis embodies a group of substituted pD,pl-galactans which share many characteristics with other products from the order Cryptonemiales such as a high degree of O-methylation, though it presents some peculiarities as it contains large amounts of xylose and pL-galactose. © 1992.
