IT has been postulated 1 that part of the radiobiological action of ionizing radiation involves an attack on the copper component of 4-electron transfer oxidases. Accordingly, we utilized as a mode the oxygen-carrying protein hæmocyanin 2,3, which contains copper as the 'active centre'. © 1962 Nature Publishing Group.
