In this paper we apply Kihara's formulation of the theory of dispersion forces to the study of the relative stability of the crystal structures of the heavy rare gases. We show that three-body interactions give a contribution to the total energy of the crystal large enough to correctly predict the greater stability of the face-centered cubic lattice. © 1965.
