The preparation of a series of new complexes of cobalt(II) containing N-substituted ureas is reported. Octahedral [CoL6]X2 (X NO3, Cl, Br, 1 2SO4) and mixed octahedral-tetrahedral [CoL6][CoX4] (X Cl, Br) complexes were obtained. The formation of solid tetrahedral [CoL2X2] (X Cl, Br) complexes is also commented upon. The configurations of the complexes were deduced from their spectral and magnetic properties. Unusual tetrahedral [CoL4]+2 species were obtained by addition of excess of ureas containing bulky N-substituents to acetone solutions of either Co(NO3)26H2 or Co(ClO4)2·6H2O. © 1966.
