Abstract:
Euglena acus, Euglena spirogyra, Phacus curvicaudus, Phacus pyrum and Phacus tortus isolated from Matanza River, Buenos Aires, Argentina, were grown in soil-water medium. When transferred to soil-water medium enriched with different beef-extract concentrations, a marked cell deformation could be observed in every instance, owing either to an extraordinary accumulation of paramylon grains or to a great development of some of them. In this paper, these morphological changes are described and their ecological implications are discussed.
