The Chagnon-Orford Intrusive Complex is characterized by two types of banding: first, a large-scale zoning consisting of ultrabasic rocks at the bottom overlain by belts of successively more acid differentiates at the roof of the laccolith; secondly, a rhythmic banding near the floor of the intrusive, consisting of alternating peridotite and pyroxenite layers. The writer is of the opinion that the zonal arrangement of the Chagnon-Orford laccolith is the result of differentiation in situ under the influence of gravity. © 1963 Ferdinand Enke Verlag Stuttgart.
