Abstract:
The available palaeomagnetic-radiometric data close to the Matuyama-Gauss polarity transition are discussed. It is suggested that a change in the polarity of the geomagnetic field occurred between 2.20 and 2.31 my. It can be representative either of the Matuyama-Gauss polarity transition or of a normal polarity event. The available paleomagnetic-radiometric data support the first of these possibilities and the sea-floor spreading data the second one. © 1970.
