Using the slow strain rate (SSR) technique, cracks have been observed in type AISI 310 stainless steel and Incoloy 800 wires, stressed in 1M HCl solution at room temperature, in a narrow potential range around the respective corrosion potentials. Generalized attack has been found in the Inconel 600 samples. XPS analysis showed the presence of chloride in the corrosion products of AISI 310 and Incoloy 800 wires. © 1991.
