Abstract:

We have studied the distribution of neutral hydrogen gas (H I) surrounding Wolf-Rayet stars closer than 10 kpc in the section of our Galaxy between l = 302° and l = 312°. H I bubbles were observed surrounding WR 48, 52, 54, 57, and 61. We find that almost all WR stars located at galactic latitudes |b| higher than 2° appear associated with H I bubbles. The fact that we do not observe H I bubbles around WR stars close to b = 0°, is most probably a selection effect, since due to the greatly increased gas density, these bubbles would be smaller than our spatial resolution. In the H I bubbles observed around the WC type stars, WR 48, 52, and 57, the star appears always located near the higher density border closest to the galactic plane. The two WN-type stars, WR 54 and 61, appear locafed near the center of large H I bubbles.
