El Capuchino Vientre Negro (Sporophila melanogaster) es un ave de pequeño tamaño, cuya distribución conocida abarca el centro y sureste de Brasil, en zonas de pastizal. Es considerada endémica de ese país y está catalogada como “Casi Amenazada” por la UICN. La ecorregión de los Campos y Malezales del sur de la provin-cia de Misiones y norte de Corrientes es un área de pastizal nativo y bien conservado que alberga un número importante de aves amenazadas, entre ellas, algunos capuchinos del género Sporophila. En noviembre de 2017 observamos al menos un ejemplar de Capuchino Vientre Negro en la Reserva Natural Urutaú, departamento de Candelaria, Misiones. Este es el primer registro de la especie en Argentina. En este trabajo describimos dichos registros y discutimos las similitudes de la zona en la que fueron detectados con su área conocida de cría en Brasil.
The Black-bellied Seedeater (Sporophila melanogaster) is a small passerine whose known distribution covers central and southeastern Brazil, in areas covered with grasslands. This species is considered endemic to this last country and it is listed as “Near Threatened” by the IUCN. The Southern Cone Mesopotamian Savanna of southern Misiones and northern Corrientes provinces is a well-preserved native grassland area that hosts a significant number of threatened birds, including the seedeaters of the genus Sporophila. In November 2017, we observed at least one individual of Black-bellied Seedeater at the Reserva Natural Urutaú, Candelaria department, Misiones province. This is the first known record of the species for Argentina. In this paper, we describe the said record and we discuss similarities of the detection area with the specie’s known breeding area in Brazil.
