Resumen:

Se presentan resultados de conteos y búsquedas de nuevas localidades invernales del Macá Tobiano (Podiceps gallardoi), realizados entre 1998 y 2004, los cuales confirman la presencia permanente de la especie en la costa atlántica. Además, se ratifica la importancia del estuario del río Gallegos como segundo sitio de congregación conocido durante el invierno. Se relevó la costa atlántica de Santa Cruz al sur de la bahía San Julián, así como la costa pacífica en Chile, al sur de la X Región. Se aportan datos y observaciones sobre la biología de la especie y se discuten sus problemas de conservación.

Abstract:

Results of counts and searches of new wintering locations of the Hooded Grebe (Podiceps gallardoi) during 1998–2004 are presented, confirming its permanent presence at the Atlantic coast. The importance of the Gallegos River estuary as the second known wintering ground is ratified. The southern part of the Atlantic coast of Santa Cruz, south of bahía San Julián, and the Pacific coast of Chile, south of the X Región, were surveyed. Data and observations regarding the biology of the species and its conservation problems are also presented.
