In this paper we provide records of forest birds obtained during several surveys carried out in the mountains of Catamarca Province, Argentina, from 1981 to 1991. Thirty seven species are listed inc1uding 10calities, date and number of birds recorded. Catamarca province, at the southern end of the Yungas, contains about 63 % of the forest birds found further north in Tucumán. We also indicate the possible ways of bird colonization of these forests.
