Abstract:

Faunistic and bioecological note. of Península Valdéz and Patagonia. XXVI. Behavioral satudies of breeding magellanic penguin Spheniscus magellanicus ,at Bahia Janssen colonies, Chubut, Argentina. During the breeding season 1970-1971 the author studied the breeding of Magellanic, Penguin in a nesting colony at Janssen Bay, Tombo Point, Chubut (44°11'S and 65° 33' 24" W). Additional studies were made in the breeding season 1972-1973 and 1973-1974, in the another nearby colony at Clara Point (43°53'S and 65° 15' W). Data is given on pair formation, nesting, pairing behavior, laying and incubation, mortality, molt, migration and other behaviors. The diverse methods for field information included are: observations, drawings ethogramme shedules, adopting a displays code, photographs, circular censuses, square and linear transects, as well as marking with plastic collars, paint, tags and aluminium bands.
