We measure reduced electric linear dichroism as function of the applied electric field of diluted saline aqueous solutions of sonicated DNA with and without sorbitol, in the corresponding wavelength of the absorption band of the complex. We apply electric linear dichroism theory, developed by us, based on the study of the light effects on a molecule, characterized by chromophore groups. We model DNA fragments as rigid, polarizable, without net electric charge and non polar bent rods. In statistical calculus the Boltzmann orientational distribution function is applied, where the energy is given by the interaction between saturable induced dipole moment and the orienting electric field. By comparing the experimental results with the values obtained by applying our theory we acquire information about the electric properties of DNA under working conditions. With the experimental data obtained for different concentrations of sorbitol, we study the behavior of the induced electric dipole moment as a function of applied electric field
