Desarrollamos tres experimentos cognitivos. La tarea de los participantes era decidir si un estímulo simbólico presentado en el monitor (un dígito que referiremos como “target”), era mayor o menor que 5. Previa a la presentación del “target”, se mostraba una secuencia de máscaras (caracteres distractores presentados aleatoriamente) que ocultan otro dígito (el “prime”). La duración de cada máscara y/o del “prime” era del orden de decenas de milisegundos. El “prime” influye en la toma de decisión, facilitando o dificultando el proceso, según sea congruente o incongruente con el “target” (respeto del 5), respectivamente. Este efecto del “prime” se conoce como “efecto-respuesta”. Los estímulos congruentes producen tiempos de respuesta menores que los incongruentes. Sin embargo, para estímulos sensoriales, en la literatura se reportan evidencias sobre inversiones del efecto-respuesta. Algunos autores sugieren que la inversión es la consecuencia comportamental de un mecanismo automático de regulación que inhibiría las señales no significativas. En este trabajo se mide en una variedad de condiciones experimentales para verificar la existencia (o no) de la reversión con estímulos numéricos
We developed three cognition experiments. The participant’s task was to decide if a symbolic stimulus exhibited in the monitor (a digit, referred to as target), was greater or smaller than 5. Previous to the target presentation, a sequence of windows with random characters, i.e., the masks, were shown. Hidden in the mask sequence one window presented another digit (refereed to as the prime). The duration of each mask and/or of priming was of the order of tens of milliseconds. The decision is influenced by the priming. Congruent pairs of priming and target (both on the same side of the 5) facilitates the decision process and incongruent pairs hinders it. This influence of the priming is known as the “response-priming effect”. Congruent stimuli produce faster responses than the incongruent stimuli. Nevertheless, some authors have reported that, for the sensorial stimuli, a reversion of the “response-priming” it takes place. It is suggested that this reversion is the behavioral expression, of an automatic process of regulation, which would inhibit the non significant signals. In this work, we measured in a variety of experimental conditions to verify the existence (or not) of the reversion for numerical stimuli
